On 09/10/2023 MAJ Jacob S. Gunter was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the Utah Army National Guard. He was federally recognized in August 2023. 
Current LTC Gunter commands the 653 Trial Defense Services which defends National Guard Soldiers against adverse action arising out of the Montana, Utah and Idaho National Guards.
Common adverse actions LTC Gunter and his team of lawyers and paralegals defend are Non-Judicial Punishment, UCMJ, General Officer Letters of Reprimand, Security Clearance Revocations, Separation Boards and rank reductions. 15-6 investigations, Army Criminal Investigation Division “CID” and Inspector General (“IG”) are also common areas where the 653 Trial Defense Services assist guardsmen free of charge.
